The trip was a success

Well at least we think it was a success, it is hard to tell if the kids truly had a good time but they said it was Okay and they all had smiles during the weekend. Although it was a long tiring weekend for us all Carter and I both feel that it was also a good time for bonding. We had 6 teens go along with Carter and I so on Friday about lunch time we loaded up the 15 passenger van and headed for Tacoma. It took us about 7 hours total including bathroom breaks and a get out and eat dinner stop as well. Once we got there we participated in a short devotional and then headed over to Carter's parents house where we stayed the weekend at. Saturday morning we woke up bright and early to get 10 of us in 2 showers which of course was fun. Then we headed over to a convention center for our day's activities. The day consisited of the key note speaker twice who was Lonnie Johnson a former NFL football player who is now a minister at a church in Florida. He focused on his life as a Christian, even through playing college ball and in the NFL. The kids really enjoyed him as a speaker and he kept their attention very well. Then we had 3 different "breakout groups" where the group was split into two and we got to experience 3 speakers in a smaller group.
For dinner on Saturday we would to a wood fire grill place that was pretty good and gave us a break from the convention center. Then we returned for an entertainment night. It started of with "The Best Band there Never was" which is a parody group made up of 3 teens from the hosting church. It was mildly entertaining but the best part was the comedian they brought in for the event. He was very clean and funny and his name was HOSS. He had lunch with us at our table that day so we had gotten a chance to speak with him but we didn't realize how funny he actually was till that night. Some of us were laughing so hard sometimes that we had tears in our eyes (even Carter who is hard to please with jokes). You can check him out at http://www.hossridgeway.net/

The Night ended for us by going back home and playing an intense game of spoons where we were very grateful that nobody got hurt! Sunday morning it was battle of the showers again when everybody woke up, then we loaded up the van and headed to church. AFter church we went to lunch at Red Robin which had been much anticpated by everbody, followed by a stop to crispy cream doughnuts at the request of the kids. Then it was time to go home. We arrived back in Coos Bay at 9:30 Sunday night with a very tired van of kids and driver and me of course.
Here are some pictures of the weekend...
