6 Months!

My silly shishkerdoodles is half a year old already! Yesterday I sang you "happy half birthday" and you just looked at me like I was crazy. I know I write this every month but I will repeat it again because it is so true but you are getting such a little personality! Daddy and I are learning what makes you laugh and I can only speak for myself but I will do the most ridiculous things just to hear it over and over again! Here are some of our thoughts about this month!

- At 4 1/2 months you impressed us with your ability to roll from your tummy to back. However, you never rolled from your back to tummy until just three days ago. We decided that this is because you hate being on your tummy!

- You have already tried more veggies then your daddy has (that may not be 100% true but it is pretty close to it). We started with green beans (you found them interesting but would still open your mouth for more), peas (you liked these much better), carrots (you actually seemed to enjoy these), avocado (sometimes you seemed to enjoy it, sometimes not), and butternut squash (I actually think you liked carrots better). You are eating 1oz 1x a day and that seems to be enough for now.

- You started cutting a tooth at the beginnig of the month but it has yet to break all the way through. It is still just this tiny white dot on your gums.

-You're hand-eye coordination is so much better! You can actually get whatever you were going for within 3 tries. However, your movements are VERY deliberate and you always crack your daddy up especially when reaching for objects in front of your face.

- Anything in your reach is fair game to be sucked on, enough said.

- This month you took your first bath that was so long that you got the cutest little wrinkly feet! You still don't enjoy bath time very much at all so usually it is a rushed thing, no matter how many toys we try to get you to play with.

-The favorite ways you like to express yourself are screaming (the good kind) and grunting. It is too cute when you'll reach out for something and grunt at it because you want it! You also have figured out how to blow very messy raspberries.

- Toward the end of the month you developed the ability to be able to sit up unassisted for a few seconds. If mommy or daddy are barely touching your back you will sit by yourself for longer, we think you just need that reassurance right now.

- We still have no idea what color your eyes will be. Somedays they look brown, other days they are greyish blue, other times they are primarily brown with blue on the outside.

- You have birthmarks that have started showing up. One on the back of your left leg, and one on your little booty (I know this will embarrass you one day).

- Another fun thing is that someday's your tongue is out of your mouth 75% of the time, you just think it is the greatest thing.

- You still are eating 6oz of formula about every 3 hours. You can last a bit longer after the feeding where you get both a solid and milk. In disposable diapers you are a size 2 although we cloth diaper 75% of the time. Clothes sizes are so interesting. Some things you still fit into 0-3 months although primarily your clothes now are the 3-6 months.

- This month was also your second long trip in the church van and 2nd youth rally. You are quite the little traveler and already oh so good at it! You also went on your first family hike and you seemed to enjoy it although it wiped you out! This will be the first of many I am sure!

- Current nicknames for you consist of mommy's which are primarily shishkerdoodles and bubba bear. Daddy's are Mase face and budderoo.

SUPER MASON (do do do doooooooo)

There was once a young man, but he was no ordinary young man. He was...

SUPER MASON!

Super Mason vowed to save the world and it's people from any and all danger. But then...

He heard someone in immediate peril.

Hark, do I hear someone in distress?  I'm needed!

Away we go!

Oh no, my mask flew off because of how fast I am

Now you know my secret identity, but it's ok...

I still saved the day!

Typical Day

Life has changed so much in the past almost 6 months (obviously). It felt like the first 3 months there was no consistency and we just kind of flew by the seat of our pants. I do think that part of that had to do with the holidays and all the traveling we did. Starting in January though with Mason being 3 months old we decided it was time to get some sort of a routine, especially since I started going back to work quarter-time. Although we are thrown curve balls every now and then this is what our typical day looks like.

7-8am: Somewhere in here Mason wakes up which prompts me to get out of bed as well. Feed Mason.
8am: Carter gets up (yes we are late risers)
10am: Carter heads to work (Tuesday-Friday)
10-11am: (Whatever time is 3 hours after he ate before) Mason eats 1oz of veggies and a bottle.
12pm (approx): Lunch  (Amber heads to work on Tuesday and Thursday)
1-2pm: Mason eats again somewhere in here.
2pm: Carter gets home from work. Put Mason down for BIG NAP
4-5pm: Somewhere in here Mason wakes up and eats again.
5:30ish: Amber gets home on Tuesday and Thursday
6pm: Dinner
6pm-8pm: Mason may eat again sometime in here
8pm: Start winding down for Mason's bedtime
8:30pm: Bedtime bottle and rocking
8:45ish: Goodnight Mason
10-11pm: Sometimes earlier, sometimes later, mommy and daddy head to bed.

Wake up and repeat.

Our schedule does tend to vary a bit depending on when he wakes up as that sets our eating schedule for the rest of the day as he still eats every 3 hours. We also spend a lot of time in there playing, and reading and just loving every minute of our sweet baby boy!

St. Patrick's Day

For St. Patrick's day we didn't do anything but I did take advantage of the good weather the day before to take some fun pictures of Mason. It was fun taking them and I hope you enjoy them!

Bloopers

With the many many pictures I take there are quite a few that I don't share because they don't adequately show our cuteness or are just a bit ridiculous. After seeing this on a few other blogs I thought it would be fun to do a blooper blog every now and then of the pictures that don't usually make the cut!

5 Months

Sweet Mason, how has it already been 5 months since you were born. Sometimes I feel like you've been with us forever and then other times I feel like time has already gone so fast! Your dad and I are getting used to this whole "being parents" thing and I would say we have a nice routine down by now. Sometimes though I get kinda frustrated, or tired, or just overwhelmed and I feel like a bad parent, but then I remind myself that I've only been "on the job" for 5 months, and it takes most people at least that long to get used to a new job and then I feel so much better!

-Your Ab muscles must be getting so strong from all that sitting up you try to do, especially when you are laying down (emphasis on the try).

- At around 4 1/2 months you discovered our mouths and when laying in our arms you leave to reach out and touch our mouth and jaw. You are completely fascinated with it and this mommy loves kissing your little hands and watching your reaction.

- You have finally developed interest in watching us eat and wanting to grab whatever we have in front of us. Just the other day you almost dumped your daddy's whole plate of food on his lap. Due to this lovely accomplishment we started you on rice cereal at the very end of this month, you were a little weirded out at first but now I like to think you enjoy it. You even move your mouth up and down like you're chewing it. Sometimes though you will stick your tongue out and not swallow at all and I have to help you close your mouth.

- You also can now recognize your bottle and we have to hide it from you while preparing it, because if you see it and you're really hungry it makes matters even worse. You will even lean forward while we are getting ready to sit down if you are close enough to your bottle to try and get it..

-You had your first fever this month, luckily it was low grade and easily solved with tylenol and a LOT of sleep and loving from daddy and mommy.

-We have upped your sleeping and you now go to bed by 9 and now we lay you back to sleep after your first morning feeding, this has given you a HUGE attitude improvement!

- You still drink 6oz every 3 hours. You are still using a medium flow nipple. You are also in size 2 diapers when you wear disposables and wear primarily 3 month clothes but you still fit into some of your 0-3 month outfits.

- We have successfully completed 2 months of cloth diapering and it is going SOOOOOOO much better.

- You rolled over from your tummy to your back at 4 1/2 months. You have now repeated it on several occasions. I think that it is due to your hate of tummy time (which is actually going a lot better). You have no interest in rolling from your back to your front though no matter how hard this mommy tries!

-We went to the park for the first time. Unfortunately you were grumpy and could care less that we were swinging on swings and going down slides.

- Your hand eye coordination is also improving. Now you actually reach for things and get semi close to actually touching them. Every now and then you will get what you are reaching for and get really excited!

-Little Mister is starting to catch on to "bedtime". A few times as we were singing to him before laying him down which we have been doing since he was born he broke into the most pathetic cry ever. I can't help but laugh because it is so cute.

- Gigi and Aunty Shanny came to visit and you got to have lots of fun and cuddle time!

-Dad story: Today for lunch I sat on out toilet in the bathroom while Mason sat in his excersaucer and stared at himself in our only full-length mirror. It was the only way I could keep him content long enough for me to eat."
